The mission of the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association is to be the industry’s primary advocate for the members of the commercial vehicle supplier community. With a continuous focus on its members, HDMA strives to advance the image and interests of the industry and its member companies.

The Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association is the only industry trade association that focuses solely on heavy duty component manufacturer’s strategic requirements.

The Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association – 100+ Year Tradition of Service to Parts Manufacturers

Since 1904, MEMA has exclusively represented and served manufacturers of motor vehicle components and systems for the original equipment (OE) and aftermarket segments of the light vehicle and heavy duty industries. The experience of being a valued partner helps MEMA anticipate the needs of its members and strengthens our ability to predict industry trends accurately and consistently.

MEMA is a full service trade association that is segmented in to areas of specialty. Each MEMA market segment association serves a distinct industry segment. Its three market segment associations: The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA) and The Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA).

HDMA Staff
As with all three MEMA market segment associations (MSAs) and association departments, HDMA is staffed with industry veterans. Our association believes the best representation for our members starts with a deep understanding of the industry and the challenges faced by the member manufacturers. HDMA executives and staff have significant experience in the commercial vehicle component market.

Top executives from HDMA and other MEMA market segments and offices are industry experts and are available for presentations to member companies, commercial vehicle industry customers, industry events and conferences, and civic groups.

Credit and Financial Services

HDMA members have access to the unique credit reporting and related financial services available exclusively through the MEMA Financial Services Group (MFSG). Services range from credit reports on customers to the rehabilitation of financially distressed distribution customers. The credit reporting division of MFSG reports on the credit responsibility of customers in virtually all segments of the automotive aftermarket, including heavy duty and original equipment manufacturers.     HDMA and MEMA represent members with legislators, the administration and regulatory agencies – championing members’ initiatives and reporting on developments in Washington:

    • MEMA DC Office: headed by experienced government affairs professionals, our DC office is one of the more respected industry association offices in the nation’s capitol. Guided by a significant representation of our membership on the MEMA Government Affairs Council, MEMA member initiatives and interests are advanced in the House of Representatives and the Senate, the executive branch, the regulatory and international trade agencies, and other in collaboration with other industry  associations.

    • Government Affairs Legislative and Regulatory Issues Book is a detailed description of the primary issues our DC, Detroit, and North Carolina based staff work from in the member advocacy process in Washington. The issue book is 100 percent driven by our members’ feedback and suggestions and represents the government affairs issues our members view as most important to our industry.

    • Motor Vehicle Parts Suppliers Economic Impact Study: This landmark study of the economic contributions of the motor vehicle parts supplier industry to the U.S. economy is developed, researched and written by the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) with input from a blue-ribbon panel of MEMA market segment association members. The study is a hard-hitting statistical report on the size and importance of our industry. Members and MEMA staff use the report and data in presentations to government officials and other groups when describing the single largest manufacturing group in the U.S., the motor vehicle parts suppliers. Copies are available to all members.

    • The MEMA Regulator: This daily e-mail report on regulatory news and information from MEMA Washington staff and sources such as the Federal Register is available to all members.

    • U.S. Trade Representative Communications: MEMA maintains regular communications and visits with the U.S. Trade Representative office on international business and import / export related tax and tariff policy.


    • WTO Reporting: MEMA regularly reports to members on issues related to the World Trade Organization activities and news.


    • Annual MEMA Ride & Drive: This annual event held in Washington, D.C., offers live field demonstrations of new and emerging technology from various MEMA member company safety and efficiency related products and applications. Invited guests are members of Congress and their staff, government regulatory agencies and other government officials. The MEMA Ride & Drive is open to participating member companies, and trade and general media editors.

    • Annual MEMA Legislative Summit: The top executive members of MEMA’s market segment associations and the MEMA board of directors meet annually in the nation’s capitol for a two-day event packed with a series of legislative briefings, receptions, and congressional face-to-face meetings. Members meet with elected representatives and staffs to discuss important issues for the motor vehicle parts supplier industry and member companies. Our members’ voices are being heard by our law, regulation, and policy makers in Washington.

       

      HDMA Premier Events and Councils

      Participation in and eligibility for the following events and councils is open to all regular HDMA members. Some HDMA and MEMA market segment association councils require membership application and approval of the council or group, as noted.

    • HD Dialogue Conference: An exceptional business conference developed by the HDMA board of directors, HD Dialogue addresses issues most important to our industry leaders today. Held annually in Las Vegas, HD Dialogue also includes a segment on the state of the association, delivered through presentations from association executives and the elected leadership of HDMA. Attended primarily by top senior executives from the commercial vehicle supplier community, HD Dialogue has a 20-plus year history as the premier heavy duty supplier-oriented conference of the year. Open to all industry participants, HD Dialogue offers a reduced-rate registration for members.

    • HDMA Annual Breakfast and Briefing at MATS: Presented by HDMA and industry partner sponsors, the annual HDMA Breakfast and Briefing at the Mid-America Trucking Show is the hottest ticket in town during the three day show in Louisville, Ky. Annual sell-out crowds of HDMA members and guests enjoy reserved or individual seating for a buffet breakfast prior to the featured presentation by a top executive of a major truck OEM. The breakfast typically begins at 7 a.m. and the program begins after serving is complete. The schedule includes an address by the current HDMA chairman on issues of importance to members and the keynote speaker discusses his company’s plans for the coming year. The schedule is arranged to allow ample time for participants to make their way to the exhibits, prior to the opening of the show.



    • Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW): This annual conference is designed to bring together all stakeholders in the HD aftermarket distributor channel. The strategic intent of HDAW is to serve as a program and venue for multiple aftermarket associations and groups
      to hold annual meetings in conjunction with a first-rate business conference. HDAW is organized by HDMA and the Heavy Duty Distributors Association (HDDA)/Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), and is governed and planned by a joint operating committee made up of representatives from more than a dozen different associations and groups. HDMA members receive reduced rate for conference registration and are eligible for participation in the popular prescheduled 1-on-1 supplier/distributor meetings at the conference.


    • Heavy Duty Business Forum: Founded in 1977, HDBF is a member-only, senior-executive business-roundtable. Meeting twice annually, Forum meetings focus on the strategic aspect of industry issues, business trends, market conditions, and provide valuable networking opportunities for the top HDMA member executives in the industry. HDBF is self-governed and is limited to the top 50 business leaders in the commercial vehicle supplier industry. Prospective new members are nominated by an active Forum member, sponsored by two active members, and elected by the general membership.

    • Heavy Duty Brake Manufacturers Council: HDBMC is a technical council of HDMA member companies in the HD
      HDBMC provides technical feedback to regulatory agencies on proposed rules, monitors new regulations to provide feedback to the Department of Transportation groups, and collaborates with various industry associations, and other organizations to ensure government regulations are fair and objective. The council also interfaces with SAE, TMC, TMA, and others on various recommended practices, guidelines and standards.

    • Heavy Duty Marketing and Sales Forum: HDMSF is a new HDMA membership council formed to address the marketing and sales aspect of industry issues, business trends, market conditions and provide valuable networking opportunities for the senior HDMA member sales and marketing executives. HDMSF is self-governed and is limited to 50 of the top sales and marketing executives in the industry. Prospective new members must be nominated by an active Forum member, sponsored by two active members, and elected by the general membership.

    • Brand Protection Council: Organized by AASA, MEMA’s automotive aftermarket segment association, BPC is a membership peer-council of executives responsible for brand and intellectual property rights protection within their company. The member delegate is typically from the marketing, legal or senior executive ranks of member companies. BPC is open to all members of HDMA and other MEMA organizations. The Council is member led and focuses on best practices, solutions and information on counterfeit parts, black- and gray-marketed products, intellectual property issues, etc.

    • The Intelligent Vehicle Electrical and Electronics Council: 4TEC (IVTEEC) is a new technical council of HDMA member companies developed to provide government regulatory agency support for member manufacturers in the low and high voltage electrical and electronics HD market. 4TEC is self-governed council of top engineering and technical representatives from member companies. 4TEC provides technical feedback to regulatory agencies on proposed rules, monitors new regulations to provide feedback to the Department of Transportation, Federal Communications Commission
      and other government groups. The council collaborates with various industry associations, and other organizations to ensure government regulations are fair and objective. The council also interfaces with SAE, TMA, and others on various initiatives
      and standards.
