Heavy Duty Dialogue ’10 DVD Combined Topics and Segments

Opening comments were provided by MEMA and HDMA leadership on the state of the association and general comments on the industry and program.

  • Thomas PM Barnett of Enterra Solutions provided an expansive overview of the world's power structure and future in the segment, Great Powers: America and the World After Bush. The segment was moderated by Denny Michels, HDMA Chairman.
  • Juergen Reers of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants discussed a global view of the truck industry and the future direction of the markets in the segment entitled The Global Truck Industry 2020 - A Strategic Assessment. The segment was moderated by Howard Abramson of Transport Topics Publishing.
  • A panel of three industry-leading executives discussed their opinions of The Next 10 Years in Trucking, and the strategic direction they see the industry is heading. Presenters were Denny Slagle, North America Truck (Volvo and Mack), Clem Driscoll, CJ Driscoll & Associates, Sandeep Kar, Frost and Sullivan. A discussion with the panel participants was moderated by Jim Mele of Fleet Owner Magazine and included questions from the audience.
  • Bob Bohn of Oshkosh Corporation discussed new products and the challenges of meeting the needs of the US government and local municipalities in the segment titled Competing in 2010-2020. Dr. Gene Goodson, former Oshkosh Chairman, moderated the audience questions.
  • How Wall Street Views the CV Industry Through 2020 proved to be an enlightening and topical panel segment, and featured Eli Lustgarten of Longbow Securities and Bill Strauss of The Chicago Federal Reserve, moderated by Peter Nesvold of Lazard Asset Management.
  • A new and popular segment in 2010 featured a panel with 3 fleet owners discussing their views on Global Transportation Strategies. Linda Longton of Randall-Reilly moderated a lively discussion featuring:
    Jerry Moyes of Swift Transportation, Pat Quinn of USXpress and Jim O'Neal of O&S Trucking
  • Finally, the leading forecasting experts in the US CV industry provided their views on the immediate and future indicators for truck builds and timing of our industry recovery. Stu MacKay of MacKay & Co and Eric Starks of FTR & Associates discussed trends and took questions from the audience, moderated by Kate Miller of Newport Communications.
