OESA presents “Innovative Product Development: Value for the Customer, Profit for the Enterprise,” Monday, April 16, 2007, during SAE 2007 World Congress at COBO Center in Detroit. The conference will examine automotive industry trends and emerging best practices in product development and innovation: - Strategy, organization, tools and metrics
- Global product development
- Best practices
- Case studies
James E. Queen, group vice president, global engineering, General Motors Corporation, will present the keynote address discussing the General Motors global product development strategy and implications for suppliers. Queen, responsible for GM vehicle engineering worldwide, has a unique perspective as GM pursues global opportunities in emerging markets. Peter Schmitt, vice president, marketing and communications Americas, Dassault Systemes, will open the session sharing ideas on technology and innovation in the supplier industry. Automotive suppliers are challenged to meet the product development needs of OEM and supplier customers. In fact, tomorrow’s successful suppliers need to support a global production footprint and a global product development framework. Learn about adapting to tomorrow’s vehicle development framework from Michael Robinet, vice president, global forecast services, CSM Worldwide, Inc. Robinet will discuss two distinct product development philosophies: global hub and global grid concepts, such as the Toyota Motor Company MC platform and General Motors Corporation Zeta platform, respectively. Laurie Harbour-Felax, president, Harbour-Felax Group, will focus on the fundamental building blocks of effective product development. Harbour-Felax will utilize industry data and best practice examples to illustrate enablers of effective product development and demonstrate how PD affects other functional areas of the business. Robert Chwalik and Andreas Mai, principals, PRTM Management Consultants, will share: “Global Product Development -- Innovation Never Sleeps.” The study, based on a survey and interviews of supplier and OEM executives, examines product development challenges and opportunities created by globalization. The scope of the study includes OEM trends and tier strategies in emerging markets. Study results will provide suppliers with practical information to accelerate product development and innovation by aligning resources with customer needs and regional opportunities. A supplier and OEM panel will share case studies providing insight on effective product development strategy, organization and industry best practices. The panel includes: - Scott Dahl, Director of Marketing and Product Planning, Robert Bosch Corporation
- Andy Yu, Vice President, Engineering, BorgWarner Inc.
- Abe Vadhavkar, New Model Platforms Manager and GPDS Integration Leader, Vehicle Operations, Stamping Engineering, Ford Motor Company
